Spoiler alert: this fall is going to be positively Medieval. Lazy Susan Creative Director Renee Wightman conjured up a bold new hand-forged iron group called FORTRESS, a deliberately primitive collection, to speak to an emerging design trend: Medieval-Chic. Consider the pop-culture influences of series such as HBOʼs immensely popular, rough-hewn-yet-mystical “Game of Thrones,” which is getting another boost from its 13 Emmy Award nominations, last year's extravagant Starz Network miniseries of the Ken Follett bestseller "Pillars of the Earth" and last week's theatrical release of an updated “Conan the Barbarian” All share a certain brand of glam-irony. Says Renee, “Weʼre calling it the raw awakening in design. The idea is to create a look-twice effect by juxtaposing this hand-forged iron with sleek contemporary pieces, traditional cut-crystal and fine linens. It adds a whole new level of textural interest, and it just feels truly of-the-moment.”
Specifically, our bone frame was in Ron Robinson/Fred Segal in Los Angeles, a wonderful retailer with a tremendous reputation for style and impeccable taste - and big-time celebrity haunt with clients such as Lenny Kravitz and Anne Hathaway.
Our little frame found its way from the shelves at Ron Robinson to some shelves in Venice Beach, in the upscale "surf shack" home of photographer Eileen Peters and denim designer Mark Wiesmayr.

With its vintage surfboards and natural finishes, this place is a natural fit with our design. It's right at home in an eclectic mix of accessories: contemporary, funky, tribal, arty, denim-y, surfer-y and organic. The creators of this lala Shangri-la were recently featured on the style blog to end all style blogs, the Selby, so to us Eileen and Mark are just a perfect snapshot of the super-cool, international, design-minded types of people who love and live with Lazy Susan pieces. Kudos to Lucky magazine for profiling them and their "Lucky Life". Oh, and if you're in Los Angeles, do visit Ron Robinson/Fred Segal.

Those first really hot days have just begun to settle in - we're thinking of beach weekends and crashing surf, of casual alfresco dinners where icy cocktail glasses come complete with a dreamy haze of condensation and and no one need worry about a coaster. We know breezy summer will give in to autumn's crisp call to action, and we'll want to start decorating and nesting and preparing fresh looks for holiday entertaining. But we're going kicking and screaming and taking a little taste of summer with us: we invite you to join us for a leisurely stroll along the DUNE ROAD.
Our Creative Director, Renee Wightman, says a major design theme for fall is the use of warm, organic textures, exhibited in her design team’s new DUNE ROAD collection, which we're launching along with two more exciting themed collections to the trade at gift shows nationwide all summer. No passing fancy, these textures are timeless because they come from nature, or take inspiration from it. Here's a highlight, and be sure to check back for more as the garden tomatoes trade chartreuse for crimson and the cicada begin to hum.
This week he's blogging for a great shelter publication, New England Home, on the driftwood trend. Add any of our driftwood pieces to your design and see for yourself how this trend is one of those that may ebb and flow but is definitely in the vernacular for the long haul.
We're such fans of ELLE Decor magazine. Editor in Chief Michael Boodro and the brilliant Anita Sarsidi have made it so chic. With crisp, clean art direction and smart journalistic style, no wonder it's been winning award after award. We recently had a chance to spend some time with Parker Bowie, who selects new products for the editorial pages, when she visited our New York showroom. What a treat! She told us about some upcoming trend stories for Fall - we won't tell, but we will say those upcoming issues are going to be fascinating. In the June issue, Parker included Lazy Susan's Crystal Hurricane in a roundup on great candle holders. See it on the very last page, which the editors call "etcetera".
Renee received Best Product Designer of the Year from one of the most prominent industry organizations. The Accessories Resource Team (ART) picks a panel of industry judges to select outstanding decorative accessory manufacturers, product designers and sales representatives who were nominated by industry professionals and peers.

Nominees waited in suspense during the black tie gala held this past Saturday evening during the Dallas Market. Accompanied by LS team members and family Renee was ecstatic to receive the award. Lazy Susan is glowing from the win and we are just so proud of Renee. If you did, you’re probably one of few not left with a pile of crumpled wrapping paper and bows that just get trashed. Instead you were given a sustainable, 2 in 1 gift - a gift that was wrapped in The Flowering Gift Wrap from Little Kay Gardens.

This wrapping paper can be put back into the ground after it has wrapped a gift. Made from 100% recycled paper, wildflower seeds such as Red Coreopsis, Black-eyed Susan and Baby Snapdragon are embedded into the paper. Once unwrapped, this paper can be easily planted to grow beautiful flowers.

If your gift was wrapped in this flowering paper, be sure to plant to receive your second gift!Lazy Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17077054696361370541noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458817967044184891.post-16275808700969403542010-12-22T09:00:00.000-08:002010-12-22T09:00:05.879-08:00Spring 2011 Sneak Peek
If you are one who always shakes your gifts or rips the corner wrapping paper to take a peek at your present because you cannot wait to find out what it is, than you will love our Sneak Peek posts. Natural caycay shells layered inside-out on a tall, elongated lamp grace a room with oceanic beauty. The hand craftsmanship creates a work of art that calmly sits on a small table or a vanity. The long, French linen shade complements the tall shape and unique color. Decorating your home with festive and cheer is one of them. If you are concerned on how your in-laws, friends or even Santa will think of your holiday decorations, remember the following easy tips to transform a home.

NATURALS + COLOR
Using naturals are a great way to bring the outside in and bring warmth to your house.

Wind real or faux green garland on your dining table, looping between centerpieces and candleholders. Dress a banister, window, around doorways or swag on a mantel. A quick note for hosting holiday parties. Use artificial garland to ensure the long life of your decorations and on the day of your party snip sprigs of pine, balsam or other trees and plants to achieve the holiday smell of fresh garland.

Collect fallen pine cones and acorns and spray paint, dust or roll in glitter. Keep some plain for a nice balance of silver, gold and natural. Place in clusters or fill decorative jars with them. Quick and effortless.

Or, fill a clear glass container with rich, red cranberries then cluster natural branches in the container and add water. The water will magnify the cranberries nicely. This can also be used with clementines instead of cranberries and a floating candle. A beautiful combination of color and naturals.Lazy Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17077054696361370541noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458817967044184891.post-5949161542782945122010-11-09T12:03:00.000-08:002010-11-09T12:37:04.858-08:00Sex and the City 2Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t the only one looking good on the big screen. Several showstoppers from Lazy Susan also made the filming of Sex and the City 2 and were looking fabulous! They definitely shined and sparkled and we hate to say it, but outdid most of the others.

They made all the cuts with flying colors and ended up decorating Charlotte’s apartment. No complaints here, with Charlotte’s classic and timeless style, we were ecstatic.
